left.jpgOnline fabric retailer Duckcloth was recently judged one of the best online shopping sites by House and Garden magazine, the bible for many a homemaker.

The shop has a comprehensive range of affordable fabric – mainly patterns and prints – for craft and home decorating. It stocks about 100 designs from near and far. There are Japanese prints, the fresh and funky designs of Amy Butler as well as some fab Aussie designers, including Kristen Doran, Bianca Van Meeuwen, Lara Cameron and Pepa Martin at Shibori.

New at Duckcloth is the coffee bag print and vintage advertising print, also patterns from Amy Butler for a great sling bag, a laptop cover and all sorts of clothing for kids and adults. There are also patterns for softies [think of Christmas], including a rather endearing flamingo.

If that flamingo sounds irresistible, you're in luck because Duckcloth is also known for its speedy delivery. Fabric and patterns ordered one day are invariably delivered the next.

Owner Lisa Edwards, who launched the business in May 2007 so she could work from home around her two-year-old daughter, Lily, says she understands how difficult it is to shop for fabric with young children, and how important it is to get what you've ordered quickly.

"A lot of my customers are mums with young kids and you just can't spend a lot of time browsing in fabric stores with kids," says Lisa.

"I send out free swatches and I have a generous returns policy if the fabric you've ordered isn't quite right. And packages are delivered to your door step really fast. I pack orders every day - Lily and I have our post office routine - and they're usually there the next day. People want it now."
