Ralph Lauren in his own words. Everything in this book has been handpicked by him, resulting in an unusually personal book, and a fashion monograph like no other.

Though his name is familiar to almost anyone who owns a pair of jeans, Ralph Lauren isn’t easy to define. Unlike many designers, he isn’t known for a single signature look, but rather for his sweeping dreams of American living: the polo shirted athletes charging down the fields, the beaches of Montauk, the cowboy in the wilderness. Over the course of his career, the images of luxury, adventure and beauty that he created have come to define American style, and elevate it far beyond the reaches of fashion.

In this visually stunning work, Lauren speaks candidly about his life and his art, and invites readers to see his sources of inspiration, his feelings, his unique design sensibility, and what he loves. Part one takes the reader into Lauren’s world, where the designer invites us into his home[s] to meet his family, and get to know him. This part features never-before-seen pictures of the designer in his private life [at home, with family, as a child and young man], and stories told by Lauren, such as his childhood dreams of becoming a baseball player, memories of his parents, learning tie-making, and shopping with his wife, Ricky, before he was a designer.

In the second part, Lauren displays his most important, most iconic and favourite work, hand-picked from hundreds of runway shows, collections and advertising campaigns. This section features images from his breakthrough multipage ad campaigns called “movies”, and other images from such photographers as Bruce Weber, Deborah Turbeville, Patrick Demarchelier, Mario Testino, Steven Meisel, Michael Thompson, Kurt Marcus, Sheila Metzner, Francois Halard and Oberto Gili. The book also contains a detailed chronology of Lauren’s career and achievements, including line launches, landmark collections, philanthropic achievements and awards. This is truly a unique fashion monograph, a personal expression of the artist, and a rare peek into the mind of one of America’s most accomplished fashion designers.

The definitive guide to vintage fashion, covering every major epoch and fashion house or designer from Charles Worth in the 1880s to Vivienne Westwood in the 1980s.

It was only a few years ago that wearing vintage clothing was strictly for fancy dress parties but today the sartorial trends couldn’t be more different. Vintage fashion, which offers totally individual, beautifully made garments, is now coveted all over the world, and style icons such as Kate Moss and Sienna Miller are regularly photographed wearing gorgeous clothes by designers whose heyday was decades ago. Contemporary designers are looking to the past for inspiration and translating long forgotten designs into modern pieces, whilst high street stores stock vintage or vintage-inspired lines that make this look accessible to everyone.

Whether as a wearer or collector of vintage fashion, this book provides all the information on how and where to buy vintage fashion. Beginning with a look at the legacy of more than 70 seminal designers from the last 120 years and the key fashion pieces that defined each decade, it documents how to separate vintage clothing from that which is antique, retro or simply secondhand, as well as providing hints and tips on what to look for and how to haggle when you find it. With contributions from the doyennes of the fashion industry – from Hilary Alexander to Miuccia Prada – the book is packed with insider fashionista tips, and includes 60 dramatic colour illustrations showing the key looks of each decade, and a gorgeous fabric cover. Written by top fashion writer and worldwide vintage connoisseur Funmi Odulate, Shopping for Vintage shows how we can all own a little piece of fashion history.

The ultimate deluxe collection for serious fashion, art, photography, graphic design and magazine aficionados.

Founded in 1992, Purple has a reputation as an innovator and a seminal magazine for today’s “It” girl or boy. It revolutionised fashion photography in the nineties by commissioning fine artists to shoot fashion editorials. What resulted was a raw, improvisational aesthetic, which continues to exert its power today. Many of the world’s most promising artists, including Terry Richardson, Juergen Teller, Jack Pierson, Richard Prince, John Currin and Vanessa Beecroft, contribute to Purple’s pages. Among the celebrity muses who appear regularly are Kim Gordon, Chloe Sevigny, Kate Moss, Catherine Deneuve and Vincent Gallo.

Purple has influenced countless other magazines and spawned trends that have trickled down through all levels of culture. To celebrate its 15th anniversary, this volume brings together the best in fashion, art and culture from Purple’s illustrious history. Along with images, the book also presents essays by such renowned writers as Glenn O’Brien, Gary Indiana and Dave Hickey. These texts further the book’s larger purpose: to chart the development of art and fashion during the past 15 years.

In February 1968, Moderna Museet in Stockholm opened the doors to a major solo exhibition of works by Andy Warhol. A substantial part of the exhibition consisted of the book, which was not to be an analytical exhibition catalogue of Warhol’s works, but a book that conveyed Warhol’s aesthetics without burdensome text. Instead of essays, they let the artist speak for himself, in short quotations published in English and Swedish. This is where Warhol’s arguably most famous statement was first seen in print: “In the future everybody will be world famous for fifteen minutes”.
