Living Creatively was given the extremely difficult task of selecting the winner of Magnolia Square’s first Visual Merchandising Awards at the recent Magnolia Square Fair held at the Malvern Town Hall in Melbourne.

Talk about a tough decision with so many talented exhibitors on show. The calibre was so high the decision came down to evidence of creative thought, originality, and attention to detail. Fat Bird Farm took the line honours with second and third prize going to Morgan Wills and Flora and Ceres respectively.

May’s fair could quite easily have been labelled ‘the fair of firsts’ as it was also the first time that pre-booked workshops were part of the three day schedule. Magnolia Square devotees who were privy to the Snippets Workshops being held booked their spots as soon as they became available thanks to their on line subscription to the Magnolia Square Snippets blog. The series of workshops were an experience not to be missed and included:

  • Jennifer Graham of The Crabapple Cupcake Bakery sharing her decorating secrets in an interactive session of cupcakes & frosting
  • Food for friends with EdDixonFoodDesign
  • The spirit of Est. handmade soaps with Carolyn Imlach and
  • Loving Liberty of London with Nic MacIsaac (Magnolia Square) & Gordon Heathcote of Liberty.

The fair continues to multiply with over 60 retailers now making up the fair. There is no shortage of talent on show with many new and signature retailers selling product with a definite point of difference. Some of Living Creatively’s previously featured retailers and enterprising designers Heatherly Design, Frankie & Ray, Pia Handmade and Luna Gallery were all also present with their unique products.

Magnolia Square’s next fair will be at the Malvern Town Hall August 14-16th, 2008
