What’s the chicest way to stay warm this winter? OK, snuggling by the fire with George Clooney certainly helps but isn’t quite what we had in mind. We’re thinking wardrobe, we’re thinking layers, something that wraps around… you guessed it, we’re thinking scarves!

You’ve probably already got a few of these trusty winter warmers, but we think you can always do with more! After all, they are a very easy way to update your wardrobe and add a quirky bit of colour to any outfit. Be as creative as you can, they don’t have to be knitted! Try patchwork, fabric, or sewing together old scraps or items of clothing. If you really don’t need more scarves clogging up your wardrobe then why not re-fashion an old one and send it in?

To enter, send us a couple of photos of the scarf you create. Enter as many times as you like, the more scarves you make, the warmer you’ll be. And readers in the northern hemisphere aren’t left out either; feel free to send through a summer-weight scarf and be part of our competitively creative challenge.

1. HOW DO I ENTER?

Simply email community@livingcreatively.com.au a few high-resolution photos of your scarf and tell us a little about how you made it. Bonus points will go to entrants who also submit a project sheet that we can put up on our website. Selected entries will be featured on this page for everyone to see, but we invite ALL entrants to share their viewpoints in our Forum.

2. DOES IT HAVE TO BE HANDMADE?

Yes, it’s only fair. After all, we are judging on creative ability.

3. WHAT ARE THE JUDGES LOOKING FOR?

We’re looking for contemporary, stylish and beautiful scarves that are made, embellished or refashioned by hand. The winning entry will be judged on vision, execution, creativity and beauty.

4. HOW WILL I BE NOTIFIED IF I WIN?

We’ll email you, so be sure to give us your email address. If you don’t have one, that’s OK – just let us know a phone number to reach you on to give you the good news.

5. WHAT WILL I WIN?

Your name in lights… the winning entry will be featured on the Living Creatively website in our Competitively Creative section. You’ll also win a AUD$100 Gift Voucher to use on anything you like.

6. CAN I ASK MORE QUESTIONS?

Sure, just email any questions to community@livingcreatively.com.au and we’ll get straight onto it. Chances are everyone else would like to

know too.

GOOD LUCK!

A little birdy tells us that making this cushion was quite an extensive project; from designing and sewing the diamond quilted fabric, to screen printing the unique design and sourcing those project-perfect buttons, but it was well worth it for Sophie Pennington, May’s Competitively Creative winner.

When Sophie told us her cushion is filled with 100% duck down, we suddenly wished we’d told you all to send us your work, because we would love to cuddle up to this one!

Sophie’s birds were hand drawn before being transferred to freezer paper, cut out and hand painted with fabric paint and ironed to seal. Once her cushion design was complete, all Sophie needed to do was to find the perfect buttons. Her extensive online search came to an unexpected end when she stumbled across these perfect black and white models in a local shop.

“I think overall it’s quite effective, and looks comfy too,” Sophie said of her cushion. We’ll have to take your word for it Sophie, but if you feel like sending it our way we’ll be more than happy to test your claim!

If you want to buy this cushion, you can find it in Sophie’s online store, In The Round, where 10% of all profits are donated to the Murdoch Childrens’ Research Institute for research towards paediatric stroke.
